And as a user you didn't have to control your midfield players or wingers, the AI would track back and get in a defensive position to at least be in a position for you to switch players and defend. Meaning distances between the defenders and midfielders weren't great, teams generally kept things compact and defended as a unit. In Fifa 22, the users' team and the AI's team both defended as a unit. There is a noticeable difference in the AI defending from Fifa 23 to Fifa 22.
